Sings of Friendliness Ernestine Gravley
Members of the Church of Christ in the small town of Dardanelle, Arkansas, carry their hospitality beyond smiles and handshakes on Sunday morning.
Nestled in a wooded valley along miles of scenic lake, Dardanelle attracts many vacationers. If they're looking for a friendly church in which to worship, they don't have to look very far.
On scores of front lawns stands a neat sign. White block lettering on a red background proclaims, "THIS FAMILY INVITES YOU to the Dardanelle Church of Christ."
A local lumber dealer, who prefers to remain anonymous, donated everything—lumber, nails, paint, tools, and labor. Members of the congregation only have to pick up a sign and erect it in their yards next to their own tree-shaded streets.
