Working Wonders
When jobs are scarce and several families in your church need employment, what can you do?
New Testament Baptist Church in Centralia, Illinois, took inventory of the skills within the congregation and decided to try to drum up work for its jobless. The church put a small classified ad in the local newspaper.
FREE ESTIMATES: Roofing, painting, carpentry, decorating, plumbing, murals, sign painting, and auto repair. For better quality at better prices call 532-0435.
"We prayed for God to bless the ad," says Pastor Charles Frick. "Calls began coming into the church office, and after six weeks, all the men were employed on different contract jobs."
In addition, Frick reports an unexpected blessing to the church. Attendance and offerings were up 25 percent as the excited reemployed brought friends and relatives to services.
"One Sunday we had three saved and two come for baptism," he says. "There's a wholesome enthusiasm among the people as we watch the Lord performing a miracle. Especially the young families have grown closer together and are supportive of one another."
