Round Trip Guaranteed Patricia Wood
Bentley Creek Wesleyan Church in upstate Pennsylvania endeared itself to its pastoral family a few summers ago with an unusual gift at vacation time. Pastor and Mrs. Bradley Wood had decided to take one last extended camping trip before their son and daughter, 15 and 12, got involved in summer jobs and then college life.
The Sunday morning before they left for the West Coast, the church treasurer suddenly came striding toward the pulpit at the end of the announcements. In one hand was a shiny five-gallon gasoline can. As the speechless pastor stepped aside, the man announced, "We want you to have a good vacation. But we also want to make sure you have enough gas to get back to us. So here's a little help."
Wood gratefuly received the can, even though it seemed empty. Only when he unscrewed the cap did he discover the contents: 184 dollar bills.
"We had a great vacation," Wood remembers, "with warm thoughts about the congregation back home. And we still have that gas can around to remind us of their love."
