Cheaper by the Skid
Two dozen churches and other ministries in Athens, Ohio, may not agree on all the fine points of doctrine, but they have certainly gotten their heads together on purchasing office supplies. A secretaries' co-operative is buying paper for one-third of retail and saving money on a wide selection of mimeographing supplies as well.
"We pool our orders every September, December, and March," explains Jeanne Donado of United Campus Ministry, one of the co-op's three coordinators.
"Last time, for example, we bought around 700 reams of paper, several cartons of mimeo stencils, and several cases of ink."
The other two coordinators are Sharon Perry of First United Methodist Church and Angela Carbetta of Christ Lutheran Church, where the supplies are delivered each time. Members must pick up their orders within two working days.
The co-op continues to grow rapidly as more churches learn about the savings of bulk buying. "Last year," says Donado, "I saved our office almost $500."
