A Shopper's Guide to Wedding Music
Question: When making wedding plans, on which subject are the bride and groom least informed but most opinionated? Likely answer: music. Most couples want to give it their individual touch but have little background to guide them. However, they did hear this neat Barry Manilow song on the radio. … One pastor who's found a way to focus the discussion within bounds and also save time is James Schackel, Zion Lutheran Church, Montrose, Colorado. "We're in a small town, and our resources are limited," he says. "So I asked DeLoy Goeglein, organist at one of our larger sister churches in the Denver area, to help us. He recorded an assortment of better wedding music within the range of our organists and the capabilities of our organ." Schackel then made a dozen duplicates of the tape for loaning to engaged couples. Meanwhile, the Zion organists began acquiring the printed scores for Gueglein''s selections. "This saves countless hours for everybody—the couple, myself, and the organist who must otherwise come to the church to demonstrate the options," says the pastor. "They simply listen to the tape on their own and then let us know their choices."
