While this is a section on works that have been seminal in my journey of faith, I feel that it is almost too obvious to start off with the Bible, but I must. For you see, I came to Christ by reading the Bible, the whole Bible and nothing but the Bible—no church, no tracts, no four spiritual laws. I went to Israel when I was fifteen and decided on my return to read the guidebook on the reason it is called the Holy Land cover-to-cover, from Genesis to Revelation. It seems like the sons and daughters of God, let alone the servants of God, would want to read all of the Word, but I haven't met too many people who have. I highly recommend it (even the "begets"). The first other book I read regarding my budding faith was A Survey of Bible Prophecy by Arthur E. Bloomfield. Why my parents had that sitting on a shelf, I have no idea. But I was fascinated by the concept that God was batting a thousand and had not missed yet with any of the biblical prophesies. I still remember Bloomfield's interpretations of Daniel's dreams almost a dozen years later. My favorite book, the one that tops the list, is Strength To Love, a collection of sermons by Martin Luther King, Jr. Sure, you know the man, what he stood for and when his birthday is, but do you know what he preached (beyond the two-and-a-half sentences from the "I Have a Dream" speech)? He was the man. Take some time to read some of his work, or listen to some of his words, on the federal holiday we now have in his honor. It will be a great present to you and his legacy. Another milestone along my spiritual path was New Eyes for Reading: Biblical and theological reflections by women of the third world by John S. Pobee and Barbel von Wartenberg-Potter.
