Big Fish
Set-up:Big Fish is the story of a young man from rural Alabama who loves to tell his son fanciful bedtime stories. One night Edward tells how he met his wife: While attending a circus, he saw a beautiful blonde in a light blue dress. She disappeared in the crowd. Discovering the circus owner knew the girl, Edward struck a deal. He would work without pay, but each month the owner would tell him more about this mystery girl. She loved daffodils and she was a student at Auburn University. After three years Edward learned her name was Sandra Templeton. The scene opens with Edward walking to the front door of Sandra's sorority, carrying a bouquet of daffodils. She greets him at the door. Scene (show or tell): "You don't know me, but my name is Edward Bloom, and I love you. I've spent the last three years working to find out who you are. And I've been shot and stabbed and trampled a few times. I broke my ribs twice. But it's all been worth it to see you here now, to finally get to talk to you, because I'm destined to marry you. I knew that the first moment I saw you at the circus, and I know it now more than ever." Sandra responds, "I'm sorry!" Edward counters, "You don't have to apologize to me. I'm the luckiest person you're going to find today." "No, I'm sorry," she says. "I'm engaged to be married." Edward sighs. After Sandra shuts the door, Edward begins to walk away. Then, inspired by the love he has in his heart for her, he turns back and calls out, "Sandra Templeton, I love you! And I will marry you!" Edward's persistence is documented in a series of scenes. While Sandra listens to a lecture on economics, the professor flips from one overhead slide to another. The words "I love Sandra Templeton" pop up. Edward hires a ...
